Subject:Re: DOS sucks
Message:
This works, SOMETIMES.<br><br>I tried everything in the book with my setup, I mean EVERYTHING, and NOTHING worked.<br><br>On my old setup with my ISA sound card it worked, but to put it plain and simple, DOS is obsolete on newer systems and probably won't work perfectly.<br><br>I recommend getting a nice old Pentium something with an ISA sound card and Windows 95.<br><br>That works perfect.
To Tristan's reply: Is doing that F8 thing like restarting in DOS because I've tried that. The problem I'm having is that when I type in the path and and stuff it messes up. For example: The path to original Wolf3d on my computer is: "C:\UNZIPPED\ORIGINAL\WOLF3D.EXE". When I type that in it doesn't exactly freeze but it just stops working. I know it doesn't freeze up because the litte blinker keeps going. It seems like the computer thinks it's actually running the program. This happens when I try it in DOS only as well. When I try some of the other add-ons (including mine), they just create a window that says "this program has performed an illegal operation."<br><br>Basically I can't get into the game unless I do it in Windows like any other non-DOS program. <br><br>To the_Master09876's reply: I'm not gonna downgrade to Windows 95 (I'm running under Windows 98) or to a cruddier sound card. I might save up and buy an old computer that's good enough to run Wolf with worthy sound :)
Does anyone know how to replace the SOD title screen? When you see it in FloEdit it's all messed up. I know it's because of SOD's pallette but how do you fix it?<br><br><br>Zach
Yes, Happy New Year everybody. I've been playing PV too, and level 6 is one of the best levels of the set. Though they're all pretty good. It took me a long time to find all the pushwalls on that level. Every time you come to a new area it looks the same as the one before it, though it isn't!! Barbara, My grandad,(John Bucksnort) was stationed at Fort Bliss from 1952 until 1974, when he retired from the army after 40 years...We lived in Las Cruces, Clint, Fabens, Alamagordo and on the Coronado side of the FRANKLIN Mountains which run right through the middle of El Paso. We lived on Cumberland Circle, right past the semenary off Radford street. I went to school(grades1 and 2) at Coldwater school and at Stanton Elemenary(on Hondo Pass St.) in El Paso!!! Small World, Huh?
It is I, Patrick Gray. Since I am currently undecided on what my future in the Wolfenstein community will be, I have decided to drop the PG Wolfenstein moniker, however the pgwolfenstein@... email will remain active.
Ummm, yeah. You might as well ignore that message, since I cant figure out how to drop that name from the yahoo account. >^..^< Bobby, it is a small world. I'm most familiar with the southern part of NM along I-25 than El Paso itself. It would have been real neat to have known your grandad. It is facinating that he was inventing addons and playing them at an age people don't generally play computer games, let alone be on the computer. I had played Wolfenstein back in 1994 (mac version) but didn't start playing it again until last year. Feel free to email me. I didn't want to disclose where I live in a public forum. Barbara

You mean these games are only for kids, Hell I'm 51 and have been playing "Wolfenstein 3D" for years and just started playing "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and now I play on line against others. So games aren't only for kids and I too like talking to John and am sad that he passed away. He was a good guy to chat with when he was on ICQ. Too many other things to do and I get shot. p.s. I wasn't implying that games are just for kids. I just didn't personally know anybody that was a 'senior citizen' who did play them. barbara, of all there is nothing wrong with people my age as you put it senior citizen or as my daughter puts it old geezer playing these games as a matter of fact i play the kids version of crazy 8s on here and enjoy it. i am only 51, i am a big kid i am not old. i enjoy playig quake too which i am going to put back on here today. i have a lot of games i play.your only old if you let yourself think you are. bear

Yes you wrote that and John was in his 80's but it sounded like anyone in our age group isn't suppose to play games, we are human and have been playing computer games for as long as they have been out. Here's a 5 level set for Wolf3D released by Kyle Fisher. It has Doom type graphics and sounds, plus a new title screen, endart and helpart files. I did the last 3 levels. You can get it at http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/schabbs9000.zip Brian.

Hello all, I have been to Shawn Mosely's (I think that's right) site, which BTW, has some good dl's, and saw one called "Wolfenstein 3d: Red Alert". However, when I try to download it, I get the message "This page can't be viewed." Does anybody else happen to know where else I can find this conversion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hey Brian, when exact;y is the Dome going to finished the revamp? Oh, and don't rush, I don't mean it that way, you guys have to do a good job, but I have no worries about that! Jo
Hi Jo, sorry about the delay. It's taking a lot longer than we first thought to get it all done. Hopefully, it'll be back soon. Hey Brian, no problem! I don't mind how long you take. I was just wondering what was holding you guys up, but, don't worry about it, take as long as u like, like I said, no pressure! Jo
I recently discovered this but am having trouble finding an iso of it or even finding it for sale. Could somebody tell me how it installed the game to your comp, with both addons? Like what folders did it put on the hard drive. I was wondering if it is necessary for a folder for the game, a folder for pack 1 and a folder for pack 2. or is there some sort of command to run the game and each mission pack. Another question is what version of the exe is on the disc. I have 1.4 but it has the questions at the beginning. Is there a later version or a different version of 1.4 without the questions at the beginning. If so where can i find it? Thanks james
Dude, I've had that CD for years! I also have that new Activision CD of Wolf3d that says 'requires XP' (which sucks ass, only the install program is changed). All the files from the Spear Super CD Pack get installed into the same directory, and the install program also works as an 'episode' switching program (once installed). It uses *.SD1 *.SD2 and *.SD3 files (for gamemaps, maphead and vswap), and just renames whichever package you select into the regular *.SOD file (so that the EXE can run them). Also included in the pack is the Spear Level Generator (which works for all three episodes and has some sounds/music included in it as well). Since mine was boxed (which I'm guessing all versions of the Super CD are), it included the Spear of Destiny hintbook, as well as a hintbook for the other 2 episodes (best times for the levels? cool!). The version of the EXE is 1.4 (with questions at the beginning, just like in your version)... and I'm pretty sure that this is the only version of Spear of Destiny that was ever released. I've noticed a bug in version 1.4 though, once you save your game it will only load your level times for the first eight levels... thus giving you an incorrect total time. I've fixed the bug (and now my best total Spear time so far is 18:46 - Bring Em On), so if you want the new exe, just let me know... Cheers, Chris
Does anybody know where i can get this installation program for switching episodes and the level generator or a copy of the cd? We here at the DieHard Group do not condone PIRATING software.. Please do not post messages giving exact locations of software that is still being sold to the public. While the games are old and dated, they are still being sold by ID via a couple of sources. If you wish to talk to someone about the games, I would suggest that you do so in private, as it will not be tolerated in the club. As so, as in the past, offending messages have been removed.. Greg BrotherTank
I apologise for giving you a URL address of the full Spear of Destiny game. I had no idea that it was not tolerated on DieHard Wolfers. What I don't understand is why my request for Lostep 3 is deleted. You CANNOT buy the Losteps anymore because the Activision package containing them has been long sold out. Even if they are available somewhere, I live in England, so I'll never be able to get hold of them. I also don't understand the offending messages getting deleted. What offending messages?

The messages giving the URL were deleted because they contain the URL to get these games illegally. You can still buy the same package that I did from ID, which is the activision release. As to you living in England and not being able to get them, the ID package is an "on-line" download of the game or you can order it to be shipped to you. Either way, in the "public" forum, we must not offer these things as it is a condition of Yahoo that forums must not engage in piracy or illegal endevors. If I did not delete the offending messages to Yahoo's TOS (Terms of Service) and someone reported it to them, then the group could be deleted by Yahoo for the breach. You accepted those Terms of Service when you joined yahoo in the first place... Now I'm sure if you had said "I'm looking for this and could someone reply to me via e-mail.... " then the group would or could not be held responsible. And if you wanted to share the information with other users, it could also have been done via e-mail by saying "I have information about SOD: The Lost Episodes and can be contacted at _insert email addy here_"... Hope that makes it a little more clearer. Greg BrotherTank Group Founder
Hello All, especially Greg....Since my forum was arbitrarily removed from the Wolf3d Dome Forums without so much as an EMAIL explaining why, I have "arbitrarily" decided not to rebuild the Bucksnort website. Anyone wishing to obtain one of the many addons that my grandfather or I have done (there are some 38 of them) can email me with their request....my email is still the same..I really don't know if the files will be hosted by the Dome any more, so just email me with your request..and for those who want to know: I am STILL an active member of THIS club..Robert Thomas Lindsey III "Bobby Bucksnort"

I have NO control over the Dome and do not wish to have any. As to the removal of your forum... You will have to talk to the Dome Admins, because it had nothing to do with my hand. I noticed that it was missing today too... And am as shocked as you are that it was deleted/removed. Greg BrotherTank
Yeah...that's weird, I don't think they should've deleted it...huh...oh, and sorry I missed the chat on Sat. I've had a lot of school work lately...I'll try and be here this week! Jo
Greg, I realize that you had nothing to do with that......my posting was an "FYI" for those concerned and for those of you that thought I might have fallen off the face of the planet....I am a busy college student these days and working for a software development firm on the side so I don't have time to devote to my gaming pastime these days..BE WELL....Bobby
I don't know who removed the Spear Forum. I'll try and find out. Re John's and Bobby's add-ons, they are all still available from my old site at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~brlowe/ They are not all listed together though - some are in the TC section, some are in registered levels and some in Spear levels. When the Dome add-ons section gets back online, they'll be listed there too. Hiya all! Aye, I know you have already been notified via email, but I need to spread the word about this . As you've probably guessed by now, Spear of Destiny - Alternate Edition is my first Wolf3d/SOD project. Info about it is in the files section to your left (hehe, as if you didn't know). Please download it 'cos it's worth the download time, I assure you, as it is the first ever SOD\Lost Episodes conversion. Also, please email me your opinion! Cheers! Jonathan Storey

Taking the graphics from one (original SOD Lost episodes) and inserting them into the original game, using the original Maps... That's about as close as you can get. Especially when we went over this in messages recently here at the club. I thought you understood. The file has been deleted, and due to your actions, the file section is now closed. NO-ONE will be allowed to upload to this site from this point on. All it takes is one bad apple to spoil it for the bunch.... Greg BrotherTank
Umm...that was a little unnessesary to ban anyone from uploading files. And, BTW, many, many, many source modded Wolfenstein addons are breaking the law. Any of them that contain one ounce of original graphics or levels or anything other than the executable. id doesn't enforce this because most of these mods never make it out of this community, but when they do, as in cases with Beyond Wolfenstein II SE, it gets cracked down on. > What part of Pirating software do you not understand? > > Taking the graphics from one (original SOD Lost episodes) and > inserting them into the original game, using the original Maps... > That's about as close as you can get. Yes. I don't know how long I'm gonna survive without reading all those crazy posts on Wolf3d Forums either dude! Looks like we're actually gonna have to go outside of our rooms and see the light of day again... AAAAAAA! What's that old lady doing with those groceries?!? *chris runs back inside the house, loosing his shoe to the hungry sidewalk*. Pheuuuff that was close! I swear those clouds just appeared in the sky when stepped out the door... and why is that girl in the suspenders looking at my hydro meter?! This is almost as scary as when Paul started talking about FOOD --- AAAAAA!!! Help me, I'm afraid of the unknown.... Chris
Technically, most of the add-ons that are released, including many on my site, are in breach of copyright. Id software has mostly looked the other way as long as it is not too blatant. When BWII was banned I asked id for some guidance on what was acceptable and the message came back that unless you hear from them then it's ok. The file posted here was basically all files from one of the Spear Lost Episodes and would certainly be one that id would object to. Greg was right to remove it. Ahahahaha! lol that's great. So true though. A little trippy but essentially true... ;) Yea I guess I'll have to learn to get a life. Oh well worse things have happened. In case you all haven't noticed... the whole www.games-guru.com network is down. WTF??!?!?!!?!?! Zach

And Master, I too studied the message that was returned when BWIISE was banned and that is why I have banned the altsod.zip file. This person had previously been told about pirating software, and then blatently uploaded to this site, a file which is in complete violation of the copyright laws and goes against everything that they were told about pirating the SOD: Lost Episodes. This upload was even in more violation than BWIISE. Yes you are right that a lot of the so called TC's are in violation of piracy in one way or another. But I remind you that they are also not all uploaded to this site either. In reading the letter from Id (Todd ??) I believe that BWIISE was directly attacked for 2 reasons: 1. Because it was big, with many people downloading it outside of the community, it was brought to Id's attention. and, 2. Because the contents of the of the file included property that belonged to Id. All references to Id's copyright were removed, and while there were changes to some of the graphics, the package was passed off as the work of the author. Basically I do not want to be a party to pirating software and have this group removed because of the actions of one. The file section has not been removed, but if you want something posted to it, you will have to have one of the moderators upload it. Greg BrotherTank

Hi... Yeah, AReyeP is good at making sprites, and art stuff etc... But I think that Kuki is better at making maps (Project Weltuntergang) and besides... I take great pride in the maps that I make by myself. I don't need AReyeP's help, no matter how good he is. thanks anyway. Hi, I just joined because I have been playing RTCW - Game of the Year Edition, and I can't figure out how to kill off the Uber Soldat, and it's driving me nuts! I can usually, eventually figure things out but I've spent days trying all different things and I'm just burned out on it. I tried applying cheats but they won't work in this version. Is there any kind of cheat, or hints, etc. SOMETHING! I can do with this version so I can move on? Thanks. Hi everybody. What did everybody think of the Wolf pre V1.0 Shareware version in April 2003 Dome News.
Does anyone have available, or know where I can purchase the Spear of Destiny Super CD Pack?? Or alternately, Simply Mission 2 and Mission 3. I originally purchased both of them (I have the original Spear of Destiny as well), and have the original documentation on both Mission 2 and Mission 3. The problem is: I loaned the original diskettes to a friend, and he doesn't remember anything about it, and supposedly does not think that he has my disks. As a result, I would like to find copies for sale, if possible. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Larry Morse
